If you’ve ever stood on the Connemara coast as the sun starts to dip, you know there’s a specific magic to it. That’s exactly what I wanted to capture in “Sunset at Spiddal.” This 22cm x 22cm fused glass piece is my tribute to those quiet, dramatic evenings along the Wild Atlantic Way, where the Irish sky completely puts on a show.
Why This Piece is Special
What I love most about working with fused glass is how it plays with light. Depending on where you place this in your home and how the sun hits it throughout the day, the colors completely shift and come alive.

That Flaming Sky: I used a blend of fiery amber, warm golds, and soft whites to recreate that final, brilliant burst of a Connemara sunset.

The Atlantic Blues: A deep, bold strip of cobalt captures the mood of the ocean, giving way to lighter, shallower shoreline tones.

The Rugged Coastline: The raised, glossy black glass elements are entirely intentional—they mimic the dark, weather-worn rocks and stone pools that make Spiddal’s beach so iconic. Because they are layered on top, the piece has a wonderful, tactile depth you just want to run your fingers over.
