Business Logo: Hair & Beauty by Mehmet and Helen

Helen & Mehmet have a hair and beauty salon in Tenterden High Street, with a fabulous logo – the Hamsa Hand. I was looking at it when visiting a few weeks ago and immediately wanted to offer a glass art version for display in the salon. Happily they agreed, and here it is! It works well mounted onto safety glass with stand offs pushing it away from the wall.

Three Cliffs Bay, Gower Peninsula, Wales.

A lovely lady came into the shop some weeks ago enquiring about a commission for her husband’s birthday. She wanted a view of Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower Peninsula in Wales as both she and her husband grew up there. The glass art was created in three layers and underwent three firings to produce the shape, flow and texture needed. The gift went down so well that a trip back home has been discussed! Measuring 40cm x 30cm and presented on a handmade oak stand.

Greencastle, County Down

This beautiful view is Greencastle Bay in County Down, commissioned by a lovely lady for a family member’s birthday. The view is a special one as the recipient spent some childhood years in one of the houses on the right of the scene – her granny’s house. It is mounted on a handmade chestnut stand and has now been passed to it’s new owner.

Little Silver Hotel, Tenterden

The new owner of the Little Silver Hotel approached me before Christmas to commission the hotel in the new year. This was a joy to work on and was hand cut in the shop with three firings in the kiln to get the layered texture I needed.  The piece measures 40cm by 30cm and is now hanging proudly in the hotel.

Family Portrait

‘Can you do people?’ I was asked last year. ‘Ummmm maybe?’ The commissioner then sent me a photo of 12 people that he wanted in glass art. This was not only a challenge but pivotal in the commissions I now produce. It turns out, yes, I can do people and they are lots of fun to work on – and so personal of course!

Family of Cats

I loved creating this commission! A family of cats for a birthday present for a special lady’s birthday – not only of the current cats in the household, but as a memory of loved cats no longer with us. The brief was to create caricature cartoons but at the same time trying to capture something of their personalities. Working from photos and information it was lovely to pass this one over and watch the owner giggle at their characters shining through the glass.

The Oast House

This commission was for the owner of this oast house, commissioned by her sister for her birthday. There is a lot of detail in this piece and a coming together of several photos of the house to build a view that included the flowers in summer, so important for this garden loving lady. The art measures 40cm x 30cm and is presented on an oak stand.

Biddenden Windows

These sweet little windows were commissioned to fit two oak doors in Biddenden, Kent. One of the doors has a wall behind it and so that window needed a white base to allow the colours to shine. The design is loosely based on an abstracted version of the famous Biddenden twins.

Fawn in the Forest

This small piece was commissioned by a lovely gentleman as a birthday present for a fawn-loving friend. He wanted it to be positioned emerging from a forest. The background was fired in first before layering thr fawn on top. It is presented on a handmade oak stand and I’m pleased to say that the commissioner was delighted with the outcome.

Harlyn Bay, Cornwall

This scene is Harlyn Bay in Cornwall – a very special place for a lady who swims in these waters very regularly. Her sister in law asked me to create her favourite place in glass for her 65th birthday in October.  There was a tight deadline but I was delighted to be able to meet it in time.

Woolacombe Bay, Devon

This is the ever changing view of the bay from Woolacombe Rise in Devon. All three were commissioned by lovely Sophie for her three daughters who enjoyed big birthdays last year. This is the view from Grandpa and Grandma’s House. Individually, the pieces are entitled ‘Hope’, ‘Sunset’ and ‘Harmony’.

Each piece measures 30cm x 40cm and is presented on a live edge oak stand.
